College Avenue United Methodist Church
Ministries

  • Ogden Friendship House
OFH is supported by local churches in the Flint Hills District of the United Methodist Church (Kansas East Conference).  The current director, Judy Atwood, is a consecrated diaconal Church & Community Worker assigned by the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

  • Early Learning Center (established 1999)
When established by the church, our Center doubled the number of infant full-day care possibilities in Manhattan.  Grants from the United Methodist Health Ministries Fund and the cooperation of Early Head Start and Family Connections help the church provide premiere care for infants, toddlers, and their families.

  • World Friendship
Our church joined others in establishment of an organization which supports and encourages students and families from countries all over the world.

  • United Methodist Women
    Four circles currently meet:
         Willing Workers (1st Thursdays @ 9am)
         Sunshine Circle (2nd Wednesdays @ 2pm)
         Eve's Kaleidoscope (3rd Tuesdays @ 7pm)
         Agape Circle (3rd Wednesdays @ 9:30am)

  • Lay Ministry and Visitation Team
Volunteers call, make personal visits, and send cards to persons who would appreciate support.

  • The Crisis Center
This local agency is another community outreach started in part through CAUMC.

  • Manhattan Emergency Shelter
This shelter provided housing and meals for 500 persons in 2003.  Church volunteers take home-baked casseroles for the main dish of meals twice a month.

  • Manhattan Habitat for Humanity
Church officers also serve on the Board of Directors of the agency, and encourage volunteer involvement.

  • Youth Football Parking Grants
The CAUMC youth, after receiving donations for parking at the church during K-State home football games, decide which agencies will receive thousands of dollars each year.

  • Roundup for Hunger (held the Saturday before Thanksgiving)
Food, clothing, cash, AIDS Kits, Health Kits, School Kits, Healthy Families Kits, and Medicine Boxes are gathered by the Kansas East Conference United Methodist Church in this yearly event and distributed to agencies which serve persons in need.

  • CROP Walk
Each year, College Avenue UMC walkers get sponsors and collect donations to the work of Church World Service.
